Government of Karnataka has taken some steps to provide housing scheme facilities for impoverished people.

Housing schemes in India are one of the evergreen developmental advantages of its economic plans because there are still high number of people who do not own a home of their own.

That is where these housing schemes are formed to provide housing facilities for both urban and rural people by boosting the economic development of the states.

The Karnataka Government has created many housing affordability programmes to achieve this goal. The Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Ltd. (RGRHCL) this programme was introduced by the government of Karnataka in April 2000, to provides affordable housing for those who are a part of the Economically Weaker Sections and low-Income groups through this programme. 


It is found that many people are facing barriers to the scheme’s implementation and proper understanding of the plan. Now let’s find now how to take advantage of this housing scheme’s programmes in Karnataka. 


Types of Housing Schemes in Karnataka


Namma Mane Scheme

The Karnataka state Government introduced this programme to give middle-class people access to inexpensive housing. In this programme, there are three different types of homes: “Bhagya,” “Sampada,” and “Yashas.” A “Bhagya” house will be 325 square feet with one bedroom, a “Sampada” house will be 375 square feet with a bedroom and study area, and a “Yasha” house will be 450 square feet with two bedrooms respectively.


Basava Vasati Yojana

The Basava Vasti Yojana is popularly known as the RGRHCL (Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited) scheme.

The state government must provide 85% of the raw materials needed for applicants to build their homes under the Basava Vasati Yojana. One of the six affordable housing programmes being implemented in the state is the Basava Vasati Yojana, popularly known as the RGRHCL Scheme.


Launched in 2021, this was exclusively engineered to provide homes to the homeless but the scope of the scheme has considerably widened, to provide shelter that can have life-altering impact on people. During the Budget 2020-21, Chief Minister of Karnataka, B. S. Yediyurappa, allocated a budget of Rs 2500 crores for the development of 2 lakh homes in the state.


Benefits of Basava Vasati Yojana scheme 2022

The Karnataka government choses beneficiaries for the RGRHCL scheme, belonging to the financially and socially poor section. With the support of the central government ,the aim is to provides homes at lower rates than the market price.

  • Eligible homeless applicants will get houses under the Scheme of basava yojane.
  • Those beneficiaries who do not have a home or any land, will get homes at affordable rates.
  • Due to the transparency and effective management of resources, result in faster transfer of funds to the eligible beneficiaries of the basav vasti yojana Scheme.
  • There is a considerable budget for the program, Rs 2,500 crores, to enable the people to seek shelter under this Scheme.
  • The RGRHCL scheme, which is also known as basava vasati yojane, is closely associated with other housing schemes as well. This ensures that the maximum number of beneficiaries are given this governmental aid.


DR. B.R Ambedkar and Vajpayee Urban Housing Schemes

In this scheme, people living in Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) are limited to constructing houses. Women are given higher prioritised whether they are married, widows and the eligible beneficiaries has to provide proofs of their BPL Ration Card, Voter's ID, Aadhaar Card, Caste Certificate, Income Certificate, and a Photos as well.

Under this scheme, SC community is allowed to construct 51 houses, and the ST community can construct 21 houses.

Benefits under this scheme.

  • The main moto is to provide houses for economically weaker sections at an affordable rates.
  • All beneficiaries will get the incentive from the government to construct their own house.

Eligibility of this scheme.

  • This scheme is applicable only to the permanent residents of Karnataka and not for the migrants from any other states.
  • If you're applying for this scheme, your family's yearly income should not be more than Rs.32,000.

Under the Vajpayee Urban Housing Scheme, the General Category people will be permitted to construct 198 houses, whereas Minority community people can construct 30 houses, and the yearly income of the beneficiary should be Rs. 32,000.

To provide the housing facility, DR. B.R Ambedkar Nivas Yojana has been implemented in both rural as well as in urban locales.

All beneficiaries income limit in rural areas should be Rs.32,000 and in Urban areas Rs.87600 and should not exceed more than that as per this scheme.

Devraj Urs Housing Scheme

This scheme was implemented for special category people only, namely Safai Karmacharies, Physically handicapped people, nomadic tribes, widows, transgender, and many others. Under this scheme, the district committee headed under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner will be responsible for selecting the beneficiaries.


Pradhana Mantri Awas Yojana

Under this scheme, in order to acquire a new house, PMAY will provide you a loan for converting your 'kutcha house' into 'pucca house.' The main moto of the government is to construct numerous houses for the economically weaker sections throughout the state.

The mandatory clause in PMAY is that women will be provided the ownership of the property.

Eligibility Criteria for this scheme

  • "Pucca" houses should not be owned by the applicant in any part of the country.
  • Ground floor will be provided for senior citizens and specially-challenged beneficiaries ONLY.
  • The subsidy amount will be decided based on the applicant's yearly income and the category in which he/she belongs.
